Anna Meares Velodrome, Brisbane with PPG

Project
Built ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Anna Meares Velodrome in Brisbane is one of Australia's premier indoor cycling venues. Its distinctive steel roof structure needed a protective coating that would withstand Queensland's harsh climate while maintaining its clean architectural finish for years to come.
Coating System
PPG PSX® 700
The structural steel was protected using a two-coat PPG system comprising PPG SIGMAZINC™ 109HS zinc-rich primer followed by PPG PSX® 700, an engineered polysiloxane finish. This specification was chosen to provide long-term corrosion protection while reducing application time compared with conventional three-coat systems.
Why It Was Chosen
- Excellent long-term corrosion protection
- Outstanding colour and gloss retention
- High abrasion resistance
- Reduced dirt pick-up for a cleaner appearance
- Two-coat application helped improve installation efficiency
Project Outcome
The PPG coating system delivered the architect's desired finish while protecting the exposed steel structure against Queensland's demanding environmental conditions. The simplified coating specification also reduced application time without compromising durability, helping create a world-class sporting venue built to last.
