Burj Khalifa, Dubai with Jotun
Project
Standing at 828 metres, the Burj Khalifa is the world's tallest building and one of the most recognisable structures ever built. Located in Dubai, the tower is exposed to extreme UV radiation, high temperatures, wind-driven sand and occasional humidity, creating a demanding environment for protective coatings.
To ensure the building maintained both its appearance and long-term durability, Jotun supplied a complete range of decorative, powder and protective coatings throughout the project. Over 487,000 litres of paint and 122 tonnes of powder coatings were used during construction.

Coating System
Jotun Protective & Powder Coatings
Jotun developed a tailored coating specification for the aluminium façade, structural steel and the tower's iconic spire, including specially formulated powder coatings for the façade panels and glass-flake reinforced protective coatings for exposed steel elements.
Why It Was Chosen
- Exceptional resistance to harsh desert conditions
- Excellent colour and gloss retention
- Long-term corrosion protection
- Durable finishes for aluminium façade components
- Reduced maintenance requirements on an iconic landmark
Project Outcome
More than 28,000 aluminium façade panels were protected using Jotun's specialist coating technology, helping preserve the tower's distinctive appearance despite years of exposure to intense sunlight and abrasive desert conditions. Today, the Burj Khalifa remains one of Jotun's most recognised global reference projects.
