When Temperatures Drop, Your Coating Still Needs to Perform

Industrial storage tanks can face some of the most demanding coating requirements.

From chemical exposure to abrasion and extreme temperatures, the internal lining needs to provide reliable protection in conditions where standard coatings may struggle.

At Total Refinery, tank 441 required a coating solution capable of providing long-term protection during harsh outdoor winter conditions.

The Challenge

The internal shell of the storage tank needed a robust lining system capable of delivering chemical and abrasion resistance.

However, the project was also being carried out in low temperatures, creating an additional challenge.

Many coating systems require specific temperatures to cure correctly. If the coating doesn't cure properly, long-term performance can be compromised.

The Solution

PPG Novaguard 890 LT was selected for the project.

The single-feed tank lining is designed to provide chemical and abrasion resistance while being capable of curing at temperatures as low as -10°C.

This low-temperature curing capability made it particularly suitable for the demanding conditions of the project.

The Result

The selected coating system provided the required protection while addressing the project's challenging low-temperature application conditions.

For industrial tanks and storage facilities, choosing a lining system designed around the actual operating and application environment can be critical to achieving long-term performance.

The right coating doesn't just protect against what's inside the tank. Sometimes, it also needs to withstand what's happening outside it.
