DESCRIPTION
Description
Guard EP is a single pack, solvent-based, quick drying, high build zinc phosphate primer developed to provide excellent corrosion protection on steel substrates. Designed as a high performance metal primer paint exterior, it offers strong adhesion and long-term durability in demanding environments.
Suitable for use as a red oxide primer, grey oxide primer, or grey zinc phosphate primer, Guard EP is ideal where a dependable anti rust paint for metal is required. Commonly specified as a red oxide metal primer, red oxide paint for metal, or metal anti rust paint, it delivers reliable protection prior to topcoating. This versatile primer paint for metal can be used as a metal primer and undercoat, helping extend the life of finishing systems.
Available in popular shades including red oxide, grey oxide, and options such as red oxide primer 5L, red oxide primer 5Ltrs, and 5L red oxide paint, Guard EP provides a practical alternative within the market to standard zinc paint metal, zinc oxide paint, and other QD zinc phosphate primer systems. Engineered as an anti corrosion zinc phosphate red oxide metal primer paint, it ensures consistent coverage and strong anti-corrosive performance.

Drying and Curing Time
- Touch Dry: 20-40 minutes
- Hard Dry: 24 hours
- Full Cure: 48 hours
- Re-coatable: Please contact us for this information
Drying times are based on temperatures of 20°C, lower temperatures will increase drying times. Please speak with our technical team before elevating temperatures or attempting to force cure any of our products unless already stated. Shop conditions such as having good airflow will optimise curing.
Compatibility
Can be overcoated with many topcoats in the Guard range, including Guard FEB and Guard FES (alkyds) or Guard SPU (polyurethane).
Surface Preparation
- Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from grease and other contamination before coating
- Thoroughly degrease and where applicable, abrade to remove rust and promote good adhesion of the coating. For optimum corrosion protection, mild steel should be blast cleaned to Sa2.5
- Complex structures may be more effectively cleaned by HPWJ (high pressure water jetting)
