Rust-Oleum 5401 Impregnation Epoxy Primer
Rust-Oleum Impregnation Primer 5401 is a high performance, two-component, solvent-free epoxy primer.
Pack Size: 1 litre or 5 litres
Colour: Clear
Yield: 10 m2 approx. per litre
Product Advantages
- For porous concrete and other mineral surfaces.
- Impregnation of porous and brittle floors
- Contains no solvents
- Can be applied on slightly damp surfaces
- Also ideal as a primer for concrete repair
- Improves adhesion on porous floors
Recommended Use
Rust-Oleum Impregnation Primer 5401 is designed for application on concrete and masonry and is primarily intended for roller and brush application. It provides a good key for adhesion on porous, mineral substrates prior to the application of several Rust-Oleum systems including:
- Rust-Oleum 9400
- As a tack-coat for Rust-Oleum 5180 Epoxy Repair Mortar
Surface Preparation
New concrete should cure and dry for at least 30 days prior to the application of the product.Remove oil, grease and all other surface contaminations by alkaline or high pressure-
(steam)cleaning in combination with appropriate detergents.
Remove all laitance, loose or unsound concrete by vacuum-blasting or etching with Rust-Oleum Surfa-Etch 108 Etching Solution. Remove concrete curing compounds completely.
Large surfaces should preferably be prepared by abrasive blasting (vacuum blasting) or flame cleaning. Profile maximum 0.5mm.
Defects in the concrete should be repaired with Rust-Oleum 5180 Epoxy Repair Mortar. Small (hair) cracks and air-pockets should be repaired with Rust-Oleum Epoxy Putty 5412. The surface should be clean and dry during application.
Directions for Use
Stir individual components thoroughly before mixing them together. Use a low-speed mixer in combination with the boxing method.
Application and Thinning
Brush Application
Use natural bristles, longhair brushes.
Thinning
Absorbent mineral substrates such as concrete:
Very porous: up to 20% with Rust-Oleum 160 Thinner.
Normal porosity: 10% up to 30% with Rust-Oleum 160 Thinner.
Power floated (slightly porous): 20% up to 40% with Rust-Oleum 160 Thinner.
Roller Application
Use medium nap, 12 mm, polyester rollers. For textured surfaces use long nap 14-18 mm rollers.
Cleanup
Rust-Oleum 160 Thinner.
